Thurlestone Hotel’s Environmental and Social Responsibility Policy
As a family friendly 4 star hotel situated on South Devon’s stunning coast, we believe that we must do everything possible to reduce the negative impact we have on the environment, without compromising the holiday experience of our guests.
At the Thurlestone Hotel we are committed to providing a good high quality service and we geninuely care about the local area and environment. We have adopted many special procedures to minimise the environmental impact of our activities, improve our management of water, energy conservation and recycling of waste. In addition we make special efforts to source our produce and services locally to support the South Devon economy.
A symbol of this commitment is our membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.
Some of the main steps in order to reduce our impact are:
- We continually seek to improve our environment and social performance.
- We reduce pollution, emissions and waste wherever possible with monitoring and control of heat, light, power.
- We train, encourage and support employees to value and participate in sustainable business practices.
- We expect similar environmental standards from suppliers and contractors we use.
- We encourage, inform and assist visitors to reduce their impact on the environment both here at the Thurlestone Hotel and when they leave .
- We work closely with the local community and Support of Local Charities & Groups.
- We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (Silver Award) as an ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and tourism.
The signature of the Green team confirms our commitment to monitor and minimise our business impact on our environment.

In Devon we recyle! You can help us by refusing packaging and bags you don’t need, and using the recycling banks you’ll find in many places across the county. – please recyle whereever you are!
