Explore the Best Beaches Just Moments from Thurlestone Hotel
Here at Thurlestone Hotel, we’re fortunate to be surrounded by some of South Devon’s most beautiful and unspoilt beaches, all within easy walking distance or a short drive from our doorstep. Whether you're looking for a peaceful paddle, a refreshing swim, or an exhilarating surf session, the coastline around us offers something for everyone.
Let us introduce you to four stunning beaches that our guests love to visit during their stay:
Leas Foot Beach – Our Neighbouring Cove
Tucked right next to Thurlestone Golf Club and just a short stroll from the hotel, Leas Foot Beach is a small, sheltered gem perfect for families and couples alike. With soft golden sand and calm waters, it’s ideal for a morning paddle, a beach picnic, or a peaceful afternoon in the sun. Its close proximity means you can enjoy a swim and be back in time for afternoon tea on the terrace.
Yarmer Beach – Spacious and Serene
Just beyond Leas Foot lies Yarmer Beach, a long stretch of sand and shingle with sweeping views over Bigbury Bay. It’s a favourite with guests who enjoy a quiet swim or a gentle walk along the shoreline. With fewer crowds and plenty of space, Yarmer offers a more tranquil beach experience, just a scenic walk from the hotel across the golf course or along the coast path.
Thurlestone Sands – Home of the Famous Rock
Perhaps the most iconic of our local beaches, Thurlestone Sands is known for its breathtaking views and the dramatic Thurlestone Rock — a natural stone arch that rises from the sea and gives the area its name. This beach is ideal for sunbathing, exploring rock pools at low tide, or capturing a perfect photo of the Devon coastline. It’s a great stop on a coastal walk from the hotel and a true highlight of the area.
Bantham Beach – For Surf and Adventure
Just a 5–10 minute drive from the hotel, Bantham Beach offers a livelier coastal experience. With rolling waves and a popular surf school, it’s a great spot for both seasoned surfers and beginners. The wide sandy beach is also perfect for family fun, beach games, and picnics. Enjoy a coffee from the beach café, take in the views of Burgh Island, or simply relax to the sound of the surf.
